This week I’ve been thinking a lot more about attitude. For most people, Thanksgiving and the preparations for Christmas put one in a good mood, thinking more about others than our own desires. However, for others, thinking about gift giving and shopping brings more anxiety than peace. For myself, this year I’m making more of an effort to keep my sanity and enjoy this special time, because it only comes once a year! Here’s a few things I’m keeping in mind to keep the stress away:

1. Take time to differentiate need and want, and then prioritize according to the budget.

We all know this – but it’s important to keep within the budget, because once that cap is lifted, so much more stress and anxiety fills in.

2. Make a list of people to gift and the gifts already purchased and those intended to purchase.

I tend to buy things throughout the year and then forget what all I’ve purchased! So I need to double check the “gift closet” before I shop.

3. Not fret over deals that I’ve missed

This might just be me, but I love a good deal that some times I feel guilty when I can’t get the deal, because circumstances kept me from getting to it or the deal just sold out so quickly. I have to remind myself to take it all in stride.

4. Think positively about the effect of my efforts.

Why am I making those purchases?!? It’s not to impress the person I’m giving it to but to bring a little more happiness and remind them that I appreciate them. After all, it is the thought that counts (for most people)!

Here’s to a healthy mindset during a seemingly busy season!

Cyber Monday

It's Cyber Monday, closely following Black Friday, and while I have bought a few things, I haven't given into the Christmas shopping frenzy. A few of my friends started shopping at 10pm Thanksgiving Day, and honestly I think it would have been fun to join -- realistically I'm glad I didn't because I would have given into my avaricious spirit and bought much more than necessary! We're actually scaling gift-giving down just a tad bit this year (and part of our extended family has informed me they are doing the same!), trying to be wise with all the deals out there, maybe perusing consignments stores also, taking advantage of free swagbucks earned from searching/"googling." According to a Yahoo news article, deals should be lasting more than just today, with some companies offering specials all through December.

So I'm going to keep my greed in check, sampling doses of humble pie and reality, and enjoy the shopping process -- there still are excellent deals to be had, but don't forget about shipping costs!

Oliver's Labels Review

How many times have you written your child's name with a Shapie on their sippy cup or clothing tag as a means of identification at the nursery or day care?!? I try so hard not to do that because I think it looks tacky, but normal labels can't stand the wear 'n tear of toddler life!

Oliver's Labels sent me a small sampling to try, and I do like these a lot! The labels are glossy and extremely durable. They are waterproof and scuff-proof and can be used on items that go into the dishwasher, microwave, fridge, or freezer. I did not notice any loss of adhesion after washing my little one's labeled sippy cup -- it only has to withstand her picking at it!

The Original Labels are 2" x 3/4" and come in a large variety of designs and icons -- there are some which are great for those with any allergies, so that everyone is aware of what your child cannot have.

We were also sent some Mini Labels, which are smaller to allow to adhere onto toys, toothbrushes, or pencils.

One of my favorites is the shoe labels! My little one is still too young for this, but I love the thought behind it. They stick to the inside heel of the shoe and have a right and left foot shape for each respective shoe!
Oliver's Labels also has a Stick-eez Clothing Label, which will adhere to your child's clothing tag. They should also be able to withstand the washer and dryer!
