Warmables Review -- Back to School

I recently had the opportunity to sample Warmables for Kids, and I really love the idea behind it. When I was attending elementary, middle, and high school and even when I was teaching, I always brought my own lunch -- it saved time (can't eat too quickly when you're talking) and money; but as a student, I couldn't have anything warm because we didn't have the use of a microwave.

Warmables is a good solution to that.Warmables is an effective heat source consolidator; it keeps food warm for 4-6 hours -- it comes with an insulated pouch, a BPA-free plastic food storage container, and a cherry pit bag (an old trick used before the time of modern heating systems; a bag of cherry pits would be put on a hearth until hot and was then used to warm cold beds during the winter.).
Here is how it works, according to the company:
Fill the provided plastic container with food. Heat in microwave. (I actually heated the food in a glass dish; we don't like to microwave plastic.)
Put the container with its hot contents into the WARMABLES pouch.
Heat the provided cherry pit bag in microwave.
Put it into the WARMABLES pouch along with the food container.
Take the sealed WARMABLES pouch and put it into your child’s INSULATED lunch box. (The insulated lunch box helps to hold the heat in longer though it's not quite as hot as a Thermos.)

This is also nice for keeping food warm for toddlers and younger children. The Warmables for Kids is $29.95 plus $5.70 shipping and can be ordered here. This is a great back-to-school item, made in the USA by a great company that gives back to the community and also is helping us to make better nutritional, economical, and environmental choices.

****This is not a paid post. The opinions are solely my own and may vary from others. Thank you to Warmables who supplied the product for the review!****

You know you're a mommy when...

Note to self: do not wear silky fabrics with a toddler in hand.

We were able to attend a beautiful and classy wedding this weekend in DC. The church actually had a handicapped accessible area where we were seated, which gave the kids an extra pew's depth to walk/crawl about. My little one and her counterpart did well during the ceremony -- surprisingly it's a bit of a blur to me now, but I don't remember any major meltdowns, so I'd consider it a good day! But mommy moments never take a vacation. As my friend and I were seated at the reception and talking, we noticed little stains on the bottom of our dresses...little handprint smudges of mashed up cheerios and milk and drool. The culprits: the two 13 month-olds. Still wouldn't trade it for the world....even though I have yet to launder my dress...

And the winner is...

Jan! You've won the Custom Poster Giveaway, and I hope it'll bring lots of business in for your SIL's DJ business!

But we still have one more giveaway...a $50 GC for n-fini bra/shapewear -- enter here!

Home...finally

We took a short vacation, and I saw so many things...some planned, some unplanned -- don't worry because I'll share those later!

What's that smell?!?

You know what this is about! Smells...it could only be...of course, the number 2! But is it possible to smell the stench when it's in another room and the door is closed?!?

I put baby girl down for a nap this afternoon and return to checking my email, listening to her play, talk, and then cry. The crying is for one of two reasons -- 1. she doesn't want to sleep and will do anything to get back to playing with me or 2. she's done #2 in the privacy of her room. I know we've done the dirty deed for today, so I'm figuring she's just fighting sleep, like she often likes to do. So I finish checking my email and move on to creatively wrapping a present -- I actually found a gift bag to fit, but was planning on stamping a brown grocery bag and using that for gift wrap so I don't have to go out and buy some! But then my nose detects something odd -- some times I think I hear things or smell things -- motherhood has made me somewhat delusional. But I decide to check on her anyways, knowing that if I'm wrong, we might lose our nap time. As I crack her room door open, my senses confirm my delusions, and I'm left wondering about the power of that smell!

***Update: she's clean and asleep....and I have a few moments to myself! ***

Wordless Wednesday

I wish I could have taken this picture, but it's actually Staff Photographer (of the Dayton Daily News) Ty Greenlees' photo.
We love our airplanes and are extremely appreciative of our airmen and servicemen!

Snikiddy -- part 2 and some for you!

I had the review opportunity to snack on the Snikiddy Cheddar Baked Fries (and you can check it out here), but you can get one for free! Register here for a coupon.

Thanks Freebies4Moms.

Save 50% or 70% on restaurants!

Here's another deal for Restaurant.com -- use code TASTY to save 70%! Will expire 7/22.
We like to use it at Las Piramides in Centerville and scored one for The Golden Lamb (you might have to wait until the beginning of the month if they're already out), but you could also get one for The Melting Pot, Kohinoor Palace, and the Golden Lamb. Note that often the restaurant will require a minimum purchase around $35, so read the fine print. Las Piramides allowed us to buy 2 dine-in meals and 1 carry-out before.

We recently had to say good-bye to some friends who moved to Florida, and at the good-bye party, another friend presenting Restaurant.com gift cards to a few restaurants in Florida, since you can search online for participating restaurants around the country.

Also of note, go to Half off Buch to purchase a $50 gift card for Pasha Grill at the Greene -- sale begins Friday at 9am!

Friends =)

I had the opportunity to get together with friends today, and it's just amazing what positive interaction does for one's heart! We were made for interaction. The big girls had some girl time to just sit and talk as the little ones played. And I took a moment to sit back and watch the kids play -- a couple of three-year-olds finding new uses for old toys, with the two-year-old trying to keep up, the one-year-old dabbling in everything, and the 11-month-olds enthralled by all the excitement happening around them.
Some times I like to just take little break and observe, almost letting my mind capture the moments like a camera. And now as I clean up and prepare for tomorrow, these little snapshots bring much joy. I'm so thankful for my friends.

Snikiddy

Thanks to Smile.ly, I had the opportunity to try Snikiddy Cheddar Baked Fries. Snikiddy Bakes Fries which are marketed as a healthy snack for families. Snikiddy’s baked fries are all-natural, gluten and wheat free with no preservatives, no corn syrup, no trans-fats, no hydrogenated oils, and have 50% less fat than fried snacks like potato or vegetable chips. Wow! Talk about healthy snacking besides fresh fruit & veggies! And they taste GREAT! The cheddar taste doesn't seem artificial, like other snacks, and it's nice and crunchy.

Snikiddy is also running a few promotions right now – for the next 2 weeks, if you buy a Snikiddy sharing pack on Alice.com, you will get $1 off; also if you visit the Sweepstakes tab at Facebook.com/Snikiddy, you can enter the weekly drawing to win a Snikiddy gift pack or the grand prize, a new Jamis kids' bike.

Friday Follow

Wow...this week flew by, and it's already Friday!
I've got 2 giveaways going on...they need lots of love! =) Happy Friday!

Custom Poster
$50 gc for N-fini bra/shapewear

Smart and Trendy Moms

Friday-Follow

n-fini Review and Giveaway!

I'm so excited, and honestly, I don't normally get excited about bras! (I actually dislike bra shopping.) In the last month, since I've weaned the little one, my bras have been extremely uncomfortable -- I got used to those nursing sleep bras (which I wore all the time!) and the nursing tanks. And someone told me that after nursing, our lovelies turn back to tube socks. Well, mine aren't there yet, but they are looking different than pre-pregnancy, that's for sure!

So I'm on the search and found n-fini. They have quite a variety of products (much more than I can list here!), like this sports bra. It's comfortable for any woman, and some nursing moms have found that the scoop neck will lend easily to breastfeeding.

Another finding, n-fini carries compression hose! When I was pregnant, I developed varicose veins in my legs and wore compression hose for a good portion of my pregnancy.

Martha, at n-fini, was a great help and recommended getting a shaper with underwire for more support. I've only worn shapers occasionally, and they haven't been comfortable. So I decided to try the Cami Shaper with built-in bra and underwire.
It has removeable, adjustable straps. I was curious about the Front Tummy Control Panel and the Back Diamond Support panel, and those very comfortably help to give shape your stomach and back; it also promotes proper posture, from my personal findings! The Anti-Curl Comfort Hem works excellently, holding the cami in place. I usually like a little bit of padding in the bra cup, which this does not have, but that's not too much of a concern since the cami gives a pretty smooth profile. And it's SO comfortable! I can easily wear this the entire day, and I really like how it supports both my back and stomach -- it helps me to feel good about myself even though my baby pooch has left remnants for me to deal with!N-fini has excellent products and customer service.

I'd recommend trying one of their products, especially with wedding season in full swing! It might be your big day. Or perhaps you're celebrating with others. I know my cami shaper will be with me when I'm celebrating! =)

BUY IT with a COUPON CODE!
N-fini has offered us a 20% discount with our exclusive discount code "Meinmommy20" -- valid until 8/24/10.

I'm being worked over...

Thank you friends for sympathizing with our teething troubles, but I think I've discovered that the little one is working me over!
Last night, again, she woke up, screaming. Unlike the previous time, there was little I could do to console her, except to take her out of her room and go downstairs, or pretend to go downstairs. I tried to rock her, but she would have none of it! I shoved my fingertip with Baby Oragel on it all over her gums, but it hardly phased her! At midnight, I was exhausted and thought maybe she'd lay in bed with me, but she clearly let me know that she didn't like it. So I turned on the tv to distract her and discovered that Jay Leno has a new fan.
Why is it that she can clearly understand me telling her to come towards me when she's stuck behind the couch or to stop at the base of the stairs because she's not allowed to climb up, but have so much difficulty understanding her?!?

Anyways, to make myself feel a little better, I'm going to make some new friends! =)

Rough night

Last night was another rough one for the baby girl. Apparently, she's now cutting more teeth; soon she'll be adding 1-4 to the 12 she already has, and she's only one! But she awoke screaming 2 times after initially going to bed. I rocked her, played a little with her, gave her ibuprofen, and prayed for a restful sleep.

The last time she woke up, I ended up gently dancing with her until she calmed down, and then we just sat and rocked away in the rocking chair. Wow, I haven't done that since I stopped nursing her! And it's so hard to put in to words the warmth I felt in my heart, but I now understand when more experienced moms would remind me to treasure the moments, as trying as they may have been. But it was so sweet to hold her and watch her rest with me. My little piece of heaven.

And the winner is...
